Story
The presence of the Shalom Catholic Community in Morocco is marked by a deep missionary spirit and close communion with the local Church. The community is currently experiencing a period of consolidation through inculturation, adaptation to the local cultural context, and language studies undertaken by new missionaries. This process has strengthened relationships with the local population and enhanced the effectiveness of its pastoral and social outreach.
In the area of spirituality, the French-language Prayer Group, held on Saturdays, brings together participants from a variety of nationalities. In the social and cultural sphere, the community leads the "Obra Nueva" Workshop, a diocesan project dedicated to the reproduction of religious icons that preserves the local Christian heritage while providing vocational training and employment opportunities for vulnerable Sub-Saharan African students.
The community's mission also extends to supporting local institutions, including the "El Faro" Association for street children, the "Dar Ticas" girls' shelter, and the Diocesan Caritas. Its commitment to education and evangelization is reflected in basic French classes for underprivileged Moroccan children, as well as catechetical programs preparing children and adults for First Communion, Confirmation, and Baptism. These programs are offered in multiple languages in collaboration with the Cathedral Parish and the Missionaries of Charity Sisters. This partnership also makes possible the organization of summer camps for Sub-Saharan African children and the promotion of the faith through the arts, including theatrical productions such as the Stations of the Cross and parish celebrations. Finally, the Diocese's trust in the community's mission is demonstrated by the active involvement of its members in the diocesan ministries of Youth, Catechesis, Culture, and the Pontifical Mission Societies, reflecting an ongoing commitment to service, dialogue, and the proclamation of peace.
